Crafted in-house · One House. One Standard.

The morning arrived the way all good stories do, slowly, and then all at once. She set the manuscript on the table, ran a thumb along its margin, and understood that the words had finally found their shape on the page.

Every line measured, every chapter opening set with the same patient hand. This was a book made to be held.

IIThe Process

From finished manuscript to published book.

Begin with a professionally edited manuscript, or entrust your book to us for Editorial Refinement. From copyediting and design through production, publication, and distribution, every title moves through a structured process with defined stages and committed dates.

  1. 01

    Submit your manuscript

Send your complete Word document, author materials, and any cover direction. We review the manuscript, confirm the scope and publishing formats, and establish the production schedule. If copyediting is included, Editorial Refinement begins here.

  2. 02

    We create the book

Once the manuscript is approved for production, we typeset the interior, design the cover, prepare the front and back matter, and create each print and digital edition to the exact specifications of its publishing platform.

  3. 03

    Review your editions

You receive a complete proof of each edition for review. Each edition includes one consolidated revision round, followed by a final proof for approval. Additional revisions or changes requested outside the included round are available as à la carte services.

  4. 04

    Complete the edition

For publishing editions, after final approval, we assign the ISBN, complete the title metadata, prepare the publication files, and release the book through the agreed retailers and platforms. Production-only editions conclude with the file delivery or platform setup included in the selected scope.

Each title is scheduled on our production calendar to ensure dedicated attention, clearly defined milestones, and a committed publication date.

The Signature Press

Published, not just printed.

Every title accepted into a House publishing edition is published under The Signature Press, our publishing imprint of record. More than a logo on the copyright page, it represents editorial stewardship, considered design, and a standard carried from the first page to the last.

The Signature Press wax seal, reading The Signature Press, Publishing House

A curated imprint

We publish a deliberately small list, so every title released under the Press is given the full attention of the House rather than the throughput of a factory.

The House stands behind it

Your book is published, not merely printed. It carries The Signature Press on the spine and title page, and the House’s standard on every page in between.

Yours in every way that counts

We are your publisher, never your proprietor. You keep your copyright, every royalty, and the final word on your book. The imprint is how it is presented, not a claim on what it is.

IIIPricing

The House Editions.

Every manuscript arrives with different ambitions. The House Editions offer varying levels of editorial guidance, design, production, and publishing support, allowing authors to select the level of partnership their work deserves.

Some authors entrust us with a single stage. Others place their entire publishing journey with the House, from refinement through release. Cover-only work, editorial assessments, and bespoke services are quoted upon request.

Our Approach. A book is more than a finished manuscript. It is a strategic asset. Should it establish authority, become the cornerstone of your brand, open doors to speaking engagements, launch your next venture, or preserve a legacy? The answer becomes the guiding principle behind every editorial, design, and production decision at Signature Manuscripts.
Author Reflections

Their Words. Our Craft.

I’d guarded this manuscript for years, so handing it over wasn’t easy. What struck me was how carefully they read it. Nothing changed without a reason, and the finished book still felt like mine, only better made.

Meghan Jordan

Memoir Author

The schedule they gave me at the start was the schedule they kept, which is rarer than it should be. The book was ready when they said it would be, and it has quietly become the thing I hand people instead of explaining what I do.

Claudia Everett

Business Author

I write thrillers, so I had firm ideas about how the finished book should feel, and I was prepared to be let down. I wasn’t. The cover matched the story instead of fighting it, and the interior was set with the same care. It reads like something from a house I would have been glad to sign with.

Kate Bennett

Novelist

My publicist referred me to them, and that recommendation is the reason I didn’t hesitate. They were exact about what they’d deliver and when, and the finished book carries the kind of production you’d expect from a major imprint. I’ve since passed their name along myself.

Questions

The Author’s Briefing

What do you need from me to start?

Your manuscript as a Word document, plus any notes on trim size, typography, or cover inspiration. If it still needs editing, we begin with Editorial Refinement, our copyediting; if it is already polished, we move straight into design and production. Either way, we carry it from there.

Is the five-business-day turnaround really five days?

Yes. Essentials, Imprint, and Signature are completed within five business days once the final manuscript, required materials, and payment have been received and the production date has been confirmed. Publishing editions, beginning with Signature Launch, follow a committed publication calendar established during onboarding.

Can I order just the interior, or just a cover?

Yes. Essentials and Imprint are interior-only editions. If you need a cover on its own, or another standalone service such as an audiobook cover, hardcover dust jacket, or additional revisions, visit Signature À La Carte or contact us for a custom quote.

Are there manuscript length limits?

Essentials, Imprint, and Signature include manuscripts up to 75,000 words. Longer manuscripts, or books with extensive tables, citations, footnotes, images, workbook elements, indexes, or other complex interior requirements, receive a custom quote before production is scheduled.

Which platforms do you publish to?

We prepare publication-ready files for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Apple Books, Kindle, and Barnes & Noble Press. Every file is built to meet the latest specifications for its intended publishing platform.

Do I need my own ISBN?

For the publishing editions, no. Signature Launch, Signature Concierge, The Founders Edition, and Signature Legacy include ISBN assignment and registration, handled for you, and your book is issued under our imprint, The Signature Press. Essentials, Imprint, and Signature are production services and don’t include an ISBN, though we’re glad to place one you already own.

Why is The Founders Edition different from purchasing Editorial Refinement and Signature Concierge separately?

The Founders Edition is managed as one continuous House engagement rather than two separate services. Editorial decisions are carried through the design and publishing stages, with one coordinated schedule, continuous project oversight, and a unified standard from manuscript review through launch.

Do you take any of my royalties?

No. You keep all royalties from your book, and you retain copyright to your work. We charge a flat fee for our editions and services, and never take a share of your sales.

What if I want changes after the proof?

Every edition includes a proof and revision round. We’ll refine your layout within the revisions included with your edition. If you’d like additional revisions beyond those included, they can be added at any time through Signature À La Carte.

Do I need my manuscript edited first?

Editing comes before design, your book should read well before it is set to look well. That is exactly what our Editorial Refinement service is for: professional copyediting that draws out clarity, consistency, and flow while preserving the voice, tone, and point of view that make the manuscript unmistakably yours. Come to us already edited if you prefer, or let us handle it. Either way, refinement comes first.

What’s the difference between copyediting and formatting?

Copyediting, which we offer as Editorial Refinement, perfects how a book reads: clarity, consistency, rhythm, and flow, refined sentence by sentence while preserving the author’s voice. Book design, what many call formatting, perfects how it looks: the typeset interior and the cover. Refinement comes first.

Will my files be ready to publish?

Yes. Every project is delivered in publication-ready formats built to the specifications of your chosen platform, so your files are ready for upload upon delivery.

From the founder

The Signature Standard

The Signature Standard is simple: exceptional writing deserves exceptional presentation.

Welcome. I’m Aniska Forbes, founder of Signature Manuscripts.

I’ve spent nearly a decade immersed in books, first as an author, then as an editor, and now helping writers prepare their work for publication. Along the way, I’ve learned that the final stage of publishing is often the one that receives the least attention, even though it’s the first thing readers experience. That care begins earlier still, at the sentence itself, in the editing that lets a writer’s voice reach the reader unclouded.

I’ve seen remarkable manuscripts undermined by rushed production, inconsistent formatting, and covers that never reflected the quality of the writing inside. Authors invest months, sometimes years, into their work. I believe the final presentation should honor that investment.

That’s why I built Signature Manuscripts into a boutique publishing house, and why the books we publish carry our own imprint, The Signature Press. I work alongside a small team of publishing professionals who share the same commitment to quality, precision, and craftsmanship.

Every manuscript that enters the House is treated with care, every page is designed with intention, and every publishing decision is considered before a book goes out under our name.

That’s the Signature Standard.
